Art Wynwood 2023
Back for its first edition since 2020, ART WYNWOOD may no longer be located in the once-artsy neighborhood that gives it its name, but its strategic location on the bay means a boat show attendee can easily shop for art as soon as they’re done buying their latest boat.

Gallery Shchukin, with previous galleries in Chelsea, NY, and Paris, France, is exhibiting the work of Murray Zimiles at the Wynwood Art Fair. There are three paintings, each from a different series by Zimiles:
In “The Palio,” 2016, 60 x 40 inches, the structure of the painting itself echoes the chaos, the dizzying speed of the horses scrambling around the Campo of Siena, Italy. Buildings twist and the lopsided plaza veers as the horses seem to thunder out of the picture. Birds of prey hint at the well-known corruption of this Super Bowl of Italian city festival rivalries.
“The Hunt,” 2017, 60 x 40 inches, is also concerned with animals in chaotic action in beautiful landscapes, this time in the Millbrook Hunt country of bucolic Dutchess County NY, where the artist lives. Slyly he takes the perspective of the hounds themselves while referencing the magnificent horses and elegant attire of the huntsmen and women.
“San Geminiano,” 2013, 60 x 40 inches, famous for its remaining high medieval towers that are vestiges of similar infra city rivalries, has a romantic pull that is depicted from several overlapping viewpoints in the painting.
