Vicki Gold Levi: Picture Editor, Author, Collector, Atlantic City Maven

VICKI GOLD LEVI was born and raised in Atlantic City, the daughter of Al Gold, the city’s first official photographer. Now living in New York City, Levi is a picture editor and author, who has worked with projection designer Wendall Harrington on several Broadway shows including, Civil War: The Musical, Having Our Say, and the Chris Rock concert at Madison Square Garden. The co-author of Atlantic City: 125 Years of Ocean Madness, Levi was co-founder of the Atlantic City Historical Museum, and director of the museum’s award winning video, Boardwalk Ballyhoo. She was also Project Director of The Atlantic City Experience, a multi-media presentation currently showing in historic Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall. Levi has been involved in many of the more prominent events chronicling Atlantic City, including consulting on Louie Malle’s film, Atlantic City, Beaches, DisneyWorld’s Boardwalk Resort in Orlando, and HBO’s Boardwalk Empire.
Levi has also appeared on radio with Larry King and on TV with Dinah Shore, Merv Griffin, the Today Show, and numerous documentaries including the PBS documentary, There She is Miss America, the VH-1 Behind the Scenes, a Miss America special, and the HBO documentary, Atlantic City, the Original Sin City. Annually she presents an art lecture and two photography scholarships in her father’s name at Stockton University in New Jersey.
Levi co-authored four other books, including Cuba Style, and Times Square Style, with Steven Heller. The Wolfsonian Museum–FIU in Miami Beach published a book about Levi’s collection (which was exhibited at the museum), Promising Paradise: Cuban Allure, American Seduction. Her Cuban photography collection was exhibited at the Montreal Museum of Fine Art, and seen in the September, 2011 issue of Vanity Fair magazine and the International Center of Photography’s exhibit, Cuba Cuba. Her personal archives on Cuba of over 2,000 items, was donated to the Wolfsonian–FIU Museum in Miami Beach and her Atlantic City archives forms the basis of the Atlantic City Historical Museum, which resides in the Atlantic City Free Public Library. Her collection of African American ephemera on Atlantic City and Harlem was donated to the National Museum of African American History and Culture, and some of the collection is featured in the museum. Currently, Levi’s collection of the work of Cuban illustrator, Conrado Massaguer, is on display in an installation at The Wolfsonian–FIU entitled Cuban Caricature and Culture: The Art of Massaguer.
