TYLER EMERSON-DORSCH is an art gallerist. Her husband, Brook Dorsch, founded Dorsch Gallery in the early 1990s to exhibit Miami-based artists. Tyler Emerson-Dorsch joined the gallery in 2008. She earned a masters degree from the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College.
Emerson Dorsch Gallery is a contemporary art gallery with two complementary roles: represent a core group of select South Florida-based artists, and represent emerging to late-career artists. The gallery moved from Wynwood to Little Haiti in 2018.

In the 1980s, I made large scale (5 x 6 ft.) semi-abstract paintings based on masks of various indigenous peoples, most especially the Kwakiutls of the Northwest Coast. Were the Kwakiutls represented in your mother’s art gallery?

There are some extraordinary women — like Suzanne Delehanty, Bonnie Clearwater, Carol Damian, Jill Deupi, Jordana Pomeroy — who have led museums in South Florida.

Most professions don’t provide a level playing field for women, but in South Florida, all of the major museums except for PAMM and many of the galleries, are led by women. Are the fine arts more gender neutral?
