Thom Barrett: “Living While Dying”

Introduction to Thom Barrett.   6:47 min.  Interview:  Raymond Elman.  Post-Production:  Lee Skye.  Music: Billy Torello.  Recorded via Zoom:  8/20/2024.

THOM BARRETT is the author of ”Living While Dying” and “Chasing My Northern Lights.”

His journey mirrors an enthralling adventure novel, distinguished by his resilient spirit in face of life’s challenges. As a former PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) partner, his 35-year career was a testament to his business acumen, his creative flair, and passion for technology, all intertwined with an ever-present zest for adventure.

Now enjoying the tranquility of Cape Cod in retirement, Barrett dedicates his creativity to crafting bespoke furniture. His commitment to community is expressed through his work with Habitat for Humanity and his role as a set builder for the Cotuit Center for the Arts. Beyond serene Cape Cod, Barrett pursues adventure travel — from the jungles of Central America to the untamed beauty of North America’s landscapes to the Alps to Antarctica.

Yet, amidst this vibrant mosaic of exploration and giving back, Barrett is engaged in a deeply personal and valiant struggle. For the past eight years, he has been battling cancer, which has recently progressed to stage IV, yet he continues to pursue adventure travel.

Barrett earned a bachelor’s degree from Boston College and is the father of two adult daughters.
