Tania Gold: Artistic Voices

Introduction to Tania Gold. 1:48 min. Interview: Raymond Elman.  Post-Production: Alexandra Pedroso.  Recorded 10/6/2025, Sam Moore Theatre, FIU, Miami.

TANIA GOLD was born in Ukraine. Her mother was a schoolteacher and her father a policeman. She grew up in a small village. The only sources of inspiration were a library and a small music school.

Music became Gold’s refuge, her inspiration, and her escape from the harshness and injustice of a tough life. She graduated as a conductor and pianist from music college, then studied as a vocalist at a conservatory. She performed with an opera theater, toured across Europe, and became known for her extraordinary range — a unique coloratura soprano with four octaves, described as a “diamond soprano.”

Sadly, illness forced Gold to give up singing and change her career path. She pursued several different professions and studies.

In 2022, on the very day the war in Ukraine began, Gold arrived in the United States for a short business trip with only a small suitcase. She had no idea what was happening back home and expected to return within a week. Instead, the borders closed, her accounts were frozen, her job and home were lost, and she was left without a place to stay. Through the website “Americans Help Ukrainians” she connected with a wonderful family in Miami, who took her in. What was meant to be a week or two turned into eight months.

Despite the struggles of immigration, new professions, and endless paperwork, she continued to meet extraordinary people. One of them was Dr. Porter Anderson, a renowned scientist, whom Gold calls the person who helped her realize her dream of founding Artistic Voices. This nonprofit organization was created to support people, children, students, and musicians through the transformative power of music.

Gold and her team organize general concerts for the community. The ticket sales support Healing Concerts — free performances for seniors, children, and patients, designed to inspire, uplift, and bring joy, even if only for an hour. In addition, she supports young musicians, always paying them for their performances, helping them build portfolios, and guiding their careers.

In 2025, Artistic Voices is launching masterclasses in Miami schools with world-class singers. The new season opened on September 26, 2025 with a Metropolitan Opera soloist, a Grammy-nominated artist, and a renowned string quartet. New projects also include a Broadway-inspired multimedia concert at Coral Gables Cinema, a showcase of Juilliard students in New York, and many other surprises.
