A Video Conversation with Pulitzer Prize-Winning Art Spiegelman

 

New Yorker cartoonist ART SPIELGELMAN has almost single-handedly brought comic books out of the toy closet and onto the literature shelves. In 1992, he won the Pulitzer Prize for his masterful Holocaust narrative “Maus“— which portrays Jews as mice and Nazis as cats.

 

 

 

Into the Deep with Author Patricia Posner

 

PATRICIA POSNER, author of “The Pharmacist of Auschwitz,” was born in London and spent half of her life in the U.K. and half in the U.S.A. Posner has always been greatly interested in the history surrounding World War II and the Holocaust. She has  long been been fascinated by the mostly untold story of Victor Capesius, an ethnic German from Romania who ended up as the chief pharmacist at Auschwitz, the largest Nazi concentration camp.

 

 

 

Murray Zimiles: The Holocaust and The Book of Fire

 

MURRAY ZIMILES is a painter, printmaker, curator, author, and educator.  In October 2014 and 2017,  he had major exhibitions of his Holocaust paintings, drawings, and prints at the Florida Holocaust Museum which recently acquired approximately 140 pictures executed from 1984-91.

ELIZABETH GELMAN was named Executive Director of The Florida Holocaust Museum in January, 2013. Also a published author and playwright, Gelman is married to composer Tom Sivak and the mother of two daughters.

Merle Saferstein:  Remarkable Educator + Journaler

 

As the director of educational outreach at the Holocaust Documentation and Education Center for twenty-six years, MERLE SAFERSTEIN worked closely with hundreds of Holocaust survivors helping them to pass along their Legacy of Remembrance to hundreds of thousands of students and teachers. She developed a course entitled Living and Leaving Your Legacy® and teaches and speaks to audiences locally, nationally, and internationally.

Susan Gladstone and the Jewish Museum of Florida — FIU

 

SUSAN GLADSTONE is the Executive Director of the Jewish Museum of Florida-FIU. Gladstone has served in several prominent leadership positions in the U.S. and abroad, most recently as director of development for the museum and for all of FIU’s Jewish Strategic Initiatives – including the university’s Global Jewish Studies Program, Holocaust Studies and Hillel FIU.

 

 

 

Igor Shteyrenberg and the Miami Jewish Film Festival

 

IGOR SHTEYRENBERG is executive director of the Miami Jewish Film Festival (MJFF) and is responsible for its overall programming and administration. Under his leadership, MJFF has seen a revitalization of its brand, an audience growth from 4,000 to over 30,000, and was recognized as “The Best Jewish Film Festival in the US” by “The Forward” and “The Best Film Festival in South Florida.”
