New Artistic Director Aims to Make a Splash with Her First GableStage Season

With an eye toward serving the company’s existing audience and attracting new theatergoers, Bari Newport has chosen her first GableStage season.
The majority of the pieces have been written or co-written by women, and nearly all will be directed by them.

For more than two decades, GableStage and producing artistic director Joseph Adler were intertwined, forming the celebrated Coral Gables theater’s DNA. Starting April 1, the new leader at the helm of GableStage will be Bari Newport, who has served for the past nine years as producing artistic director of the Penobscot Theatre Co. in Bangor, Maine.
